This is a day trip to Akagera National Park from Kigali Rwanda. It covers 1,200 km² in eastern Rwanda, along the Tanzanian border. It was founded in 1934 to protect animals and vegetation in three eco-regions: savannah, mountain and swamp. The park is named for the Kagera River which flows along its eastern boundary feeding into several lakes the largest of which is Lake Ihema. The complex system of lakes and linking papyrus swamps makes up over 1/3 of the park and is the largest protected wetland in central Africa.
You will enjoy and experience nature, wildlife, habit and habitat of the fauna and flora in the natural areas, also peoples and culture.
In the morning at 0500hrs pick up from your hotel in Kigali and drive 170 km for aprox 3 hours to Akagera national park. Full day game drives.
Bordering Rwandas eastern neighbor Tanzania, Akagera National Park could scarcely be more different in mood to the breezy cultivated hills that characterize much of Rwanda. Dominated scenically by the labyrinth of swamps and lakes that follow the meandering course of the Akagera River, the most remote source of the Nile, this is archetypal African savannah landscape of tangled acacia woodland interspersed with open grassland. Akagera is, above all, big game country! home to herds of Elephant, Zebra, Giraffe, gnu and buffalo emerge from the woodland to drink at the lakes, while lucky visitors might stumble across a leopard, a spotted hyena.
Packed lunch or snacks is recommended, we can organize packed lunches for you at $ 15 each OR you can take with you some snacks from the supermarket.
Later evening we drive back to Kigali where you will be dropped at your hotel. (End of tour)
