Day 1: Arrival in Kigali –Kigali City Tour –Inside Africa.

Arrival at the International Airport in Kigali where we will personally welcome you. According to your arrival time we may have a city tour which include the visit of Kigali Genocide Memorial. Day 2: Optional: Drive to Nyungwe NP –Visit National Museum of Butane

Day 3 –Chimpanzee Trekking –Canopy Walk

After Breakfast, head for Chimpanzee trekking early in the morning and Canopy walk in the afternoon. Nyungwe is not only one of the oldest, mistiest rainforests, it’s also one of the best preserved mountain forests in East Africa. In 2005 this region was officially declared to be a National Park. Day 4 Colobus Monkey

 Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park Via Lake Kivu.

After Breakfast you will travel to Volcanoes National Park via Kibuye where will stop for Lunch. On the way you will enjoy the view of Lake Kivu showers, Coffee plantation,….arriving in the evening for dinner and overnight at:

Day 6: Volcanoes National Park –gorilla trekking –Optional: visit of Iby’Iwacu project

Early in the morning we are going to start the gorilla trekking. In groups of maximum 8 people, you will receive an introduction from a park ranger at the national park gate. We are going to track the gorilla family through the rainforest on the volcanoes. Like the chimp trekking, once we have reached the family we are allowed to spend one hour with these amazing creatures.

After a lunch break, if time allow ,we will visit the Iby‘Iwacu project; a local community project we are sponsoring whom once earned their money by hunting gorillas and cutting the trees of the national park in order to gain fire wood and cultivate the communities agricultural products. However the project has now adapted to a sustainable life style to protect the national park and the gorillas, allowing nature to flourish while the community still earn their daily income due to the attraction of the park.  Overnight at:

Day 07: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

 Day 08: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth-Game drive–Game drive in ISHASHA.

After Breakfast you will travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park. We will provide you with a packed lunch during the journey. You will enjoy a game drive through the park, including a trip to the Ishasha Area. Among the many activities includes visiting the Kob mating ground where a large number of the Kobs converge, In this area there are lions, Kobs, Elephants, Buffalos, warthogs, bush buck and water buck. In the late afternoon you will be transported to your Lodge. Dinner and overnight stay at:

 Day 09: Transfer to Mweya

Early wake up and morning tea at the lodge. Followed by an early morning game drive on the way to Mweya but via Ishasha to see the climbing lions then heading to Mweya safari where you will have your lunch. Later afternoon will have an evening game drive in Mweya park. Dinner and overnight at:

 Day 10: Chimp trekking in Kyambura-Launch Cruise on Kazinga

Early Breakfast at 6.00am, followed by a trek to Kyamburato see the chimps. Return to the lodge for lunch and then gofor a trip to Kazinga channel. The Kazinga Channel is a natural channel of 36 km long between Lake George and Lake Edward. You will be able to see elephants, hippo, Nile crocodile and many water birds. The water birds are plentiful along the channel: African skimmers, African fish eagles, cormorants, saddle-billed storks, pelicans, etc. The Kazinga Channel divides Queen Elizabeth in a northern (Mweya) and southern part (Maramagambo, Kyambura, and Ishasha). . Day 11: To Fort Portal.

Early morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park, then return to the lodge for breakfast. After breakfast we will depart for Fort Portal via Kasese. Lunch in Kasese. In the afternoon we will visit the market in Fort Portal before being transported to your overnight hotel where you will have dinner and stay overnight at:

Day 12: Transfer to Murchison Falls NP

 Day13: Game drive–Boat cruise on Nile to the falls

After an early morning game drive in the park we will return to the lodge for breakfast. You will then have the chance to relax or take part in the next game drive in the park. After lunch you will depart for a 3 hour Boat launch trip up-stream towards the base of Murchison Falls. Hippos, huge Nile Crocodiles and fantastically varied bird-life abound. Here Bird watchers will appreciate the rich bird life and the animal community. Activities: Wild life viewing and Bird watching.  Day14: Visit the rhinos–visit the top of the falls–Transfer to Kampala-Entebbe

After breakfast we will depart to the upper edge of the falls in order to gain the chance to see them from the opposite side. Afterwards you will be transported to Nakasangora, where we will visit the Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Packed lunch will be provided on the way. Then we will drive to Kampala, according to your flights we may take you straight to the Entebbe airport or next day

Day 2. Game drive and transfer to Kigali

Proceed to the Southern Sector where you will have a chance to view plenty of animals, including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles and also many other mammal species. Known as one of the most scenic savannahs in East Africa, the game drive in Akagera provides you with the opportunity to also view gentle hills blending beautifully with lowland swamps and water bodies. Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park-Butare Museum

Early Morning breakfast and transfer to Nyungwe Via Butare Town where you will take a visit to the National Museum of Rwanda, providing you with a deeper insight into Rwandan history and culture. Lunch in Butare and after you will then continue on to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Nyungwe is the only destination in the world where you can see up to 13 species of primates in a single location, including rare species such as Chimpanzees, the Blue Monkeys, L’Hoest’s Monkeys and the Angolan black and white Colobus Monkeys. Nyungwe presents a unique phenomenon in primate tourism due to its huge concentrations of habituated primates whose troops can include 400 to 500 individuals! Day 4: Trek chimpanzees

Have your breakfast at 7.00am, and after carry your gorilla trekking gear and then report at the ORTPN offices for registration and briefing at 7.30am. Drive to the Volcanoes National Park for a memorable gorilla trek. Gorilla trekking may sometimes seem to be strenuous so trekkers are required to be fit because it may take from 2 hours to 10 hours. An encounter of the gorillas after a tiring trek is rewarding!

Later return to your Lodge for Lunch, and after transfer to Kigali and on arrival, proceed for Kigali City tour. Transit Time: 3 Hours

Day 4: Pygmy Visit in Mgahinga National Park

After an early breakfast at 7.00am, transfer with your packed lunch to Cyanika Boarder of Uganda and Rwanda which is about 30 Minutes’ drive from you lodge, do boarder clearance and proceed to Mgahinga National Park in Uganda that shares boarders with Volcanoes National Park. On arrival, the rangers will brief you on the Batwa (Pygmy) trail before starting the trail at about 8.30am.

The Batwa (Pygmy) will demonstrate hunting techniques, gather honey, point out medicinal plants and demonstrate how to make bamboo cups. Guests are invited to the sacred Garama Cave, once a refuge for the Batwa, where the women of the community perform a sorrowful song which echoes eerily around the depths of the dark cave, and leaves guests with a moving sense of the richness of this fading culture.

Later you will transfer back to Ruhengeri and check in at your Lodge, Dinner and Overnight stay at Bisate Lodge (FB)/Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge (FB)

Day 5: To Kigali

To start things off, you will be given a tour of Kigali, Rwanda’s capital city which was named in 1907 by Dr. Richard Kandt, the first colonial resident governor of Rwanda. It is the main administrative and economic centre of Rwanda. Surrounded by lush hills of green, it is the cleanest and safest city in the region. Kigali’s face is her fortune: a dramatic beauty from which its name is derived. Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park-Colobus Trek

Your morning will start early with a visit to the National Museum of Rwanda, providing you with a deeper insight into Rwandan history and culture. Day 6: Morning transfer to Kibuye, driving along the shores of Lake Kivu.

Lake Kivu is one of the great lakes in Africa and the largest of the fresh water lakes that gleam in the Albertine (Western) rift of the Great Rift Valley. Lake Kivu stands at 1461m (4,790ft) above sea level establishing it as Africa’s highest lake. The northern shore of the lake is often subject to eruptions from nearby Mt Nyiragongo.

Kibuye is Rwanda’s most attractive of lake ports, nestled in a series of interwoven and undulating hills and offering visitors spectacular views of the lake, its islands and the stunning surrounding countryside. Day 7: Relaxation

This morning we will continue on to the town of Gisenyi. Day 9: Morning transfer to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village in Musanze District

Morning transfer to Musanze District where you will visit and stay at the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, based in the community bordering Parc National des Volcans. At the village, you will have a wonderful, interactive experience, learning all about Rwandan traditions, culture, song and dance. You can participate in local dances and drumming, all while wearing traditional local “Umushanana” dress; shooting arrows, attending a traditional healer’s medicine show you will also have the opportunity to sample local food and banana beer and visit a local household or school. As well, you can choose to visit some of the local community projects and co-operatives to see, first hand, how your travel with us contributes to making a difference in people’s lives. You will spend the night here, in traditional houses and participate in Gitaramo, a cultural tradition of sharing stories, song and dance while sitting around a warm fire. Day 10: Gorilla trekking in Rwanda’s Park Volcanoes

Have your breakfast, carry your packed lunch and gorilla trekking gear and then report at the ORTPN offices for registration and briefing. You may have a picnic lunch along the trek if trekking takes longer hours. Day 11:   Golden Monkey trekking only

Have breakfast and report at the ORTPN Office for registration and briefing, thereafter drive to the Volcanoes National Park for the Golden Monkeys Golden monkeys are one of the rarest primates in Africa.  It is now believed that the only feasible population of these monkeys is left in the Virunga Volcanoes National park and Mgahinga National Park in Uganda.  A smaller population may continue living in the Nyungwe Forest National Park in Southern Rwanda but this has yet to be confirmed. The golden monkey is a disparate species of guenon – Cercopithecus Kandti and is ubiquitous to the Albertine Rift. Dinner and Overnight Five Volcanoes Hotel, FB

Day 12:  The Dian Fossey trek

We will take you to the graves of the late famous American zoologist – Dian Fossey who was murdered while on her research about Gorillas and other primates in Park des Volcans. Volcanoes NP was the pedestal for the famous naturalist Dian Fossey who carried out her research into the gorillas. She arrived in 1967 and established the Karisoke Research Centre between Karisimbi and Visoke. Since then, she spent most of her time in the park.  She is significantly credited for saving the gorillas from extinction by passing on their quandary to the notice of the international community. She was murdered by an unknown assailants at her home in 1985, a crime often attributed to the poachers she had spent her life fighting against. Dian Fossey’s vitality research was later revealed in the movie Gorillas in the Mist, marked after her memoirs. She was buried in the volcanoes National park in a grave close to her research center amongst the gorillas which became her life. Day 13: To Kigali-site seeing

Day 5: To Nyungwe Forest

Transfer from Lake Kivu to Nyugwe after Breakfast. Arrive early afternoon for lunch and you will spend the rest of the evening at the Lodge side resting before the following day’s colobus trek in the forest. Dinner and Over Night at Nyungwe Top Hill View Hotel (FB)

Day 6: Nyugwe Forest-Colobus trek

After breakfast, leave for Colobus trek in the Nyungwe Forest, with Nyungwe being the only forest in African where you can get the colobus in big groups, in the evening you may opt for the Canopy walk in the forest (Canopy walk not included in the cost) Overnight at Nyungwe Top Hill View Hotel (FB)

 

 

Day 7: Chimpanzee tracking

GORILLA TREKKING IN RWANDA

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali Overnight

Arrival at Kigali airport, you will be met, welcomed and picked up by our Guide who will transfer you to your overnight accommodation in Kigali for Overnight. Overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel (BB)

Day 2: Kigali City Tour-Ruhengeri

After breakfast at 9.00am, transfer for Kigali for a city tour. You will visit the genocide memorial. The Kigali Genocide Memorial was launched in April 2004 on the 10th Anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide. This Centre is well built on a place in Kigali where over 250,000 people were buried after genocide. These graves are obvious assistant inflections of the cost of ignorance in Africa. The site is an enduring monument to   fatalities of Rwanda genocide. It is a place for people to mourn for their loved ones that yielded to the genocide. It contains an eternal exposition of the Rwandan genocide and a display of other genocides around the world. Lunch in Kigali town, you will then transfer to volcanoes National park at around 1.30pm- for Dinner and overnight at Virunga Lodge (FB)

Day 3:  Gorilla trekking in Rwanda’s Park Volcanoes

Have your breakfast at 7.00am, and after carry your gorilla trekking gear and then report at the ORTPN offices for registration and briefing at 7.30am. Drive to the Volcanoes National Park for a memorable gorilla trek. Gorilla trekking may sometimes seem to be strenuous so trekkers are required to be fit because it may take from 2 hours to 10 hours. An encounter of the gorillas after a tiring trek is rewarding! Later return to your Lodge for Lunch, Dinner and Overnight stay at Virunga Lodge (FB)

Day 4:  Volcanoes-to Kigali-Departure

After an breakfast at, you may opt to visit the communities around the volcanoes or transfer to explore the beautiful Lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo, early Lunch at the Lodge and Later on you will transfer to Kigali (about 3.5hours) and on arrival, transfer to the Airport for your flight outbound

An encounter of the gorillas after a tiring trek is rewarding!  You will return to the lodge.  If gorilla trekking ends early, you may visit the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo at an extra cost (Here you you are transferred to the best viewing point where you can view the Lakes to your best). Day 4:   Golden Monkey trekking only

Have breakfast and report at the ORTPN Office for registration and briefing, thereafter drive to the Volcanoes National Park for the Golden Monkeys Golden monkeys are one of the rarest primates in Africa.  It is now believed that the only feasible population of these monkeys is left in the Virunga Volcanoes National park and Mgahinga National Park in Uganda.  A smaller population may continue living in the Nyungwe Forest National Park in Southern Rwanda but this has yet to be confirmed. The golden monkey is a disparate species of guenon – Cercopithecus Kandti and is ubiquitous to the Albertine Rift. Dinner and Overnight Five Volcanoes Hotel (FB)

Day 5:  The Dian Fossey trek-To Kigali

We will take you to the graves of the late famous American zoologist – Dian Fossey who was murdered while on her research about Gorillas and other primates in Park des Volcans. Volcanoes NP was the pedestal for the famous naturalist Dian Fossey who carried out her research into the gorillas. She arrived in 1967 and established the Karisoke Research Centre between Karisimbi and Visoke. Since then, she spent most of her time in the park.  She is significantly credited for saving the gorillas from extinction by passing on their quandary to the notice of the international community. She was murdered by an unknown assailants at her home in 1985, a crime often attributed to the poachers she had spent her life fighting against. Dian Fossey’s vitality research was later revealed in the movie Gorillas in the Mist, marked after her memoirs. She was buried in the volcanoes National park in a grave close to her research center amongst the gorillas which became her life. After trek you will return to the lodge for your lunch, and after drive to Kigali and transfer to your hotel for dinner and Overnight at Des Mille Collins (BB)

Day 6:  Craft markets and later Transfer to the airport  

After breakfast, walk around the city, shopping for Rwandan souvenirs and later Transfer to the Airport for your home-bound flight

BIG TIME RWANDA TOUR

This tour allows you see Parc National des Volcans famous for gorilla tracking (gorilla permit cost US$1500 per gorilla permit), seeing local communities, it takes to Nyungwe, in South West of Rwanda, a huge afro-montane forest. Day 2 Kigali- Nyungwe

Today we head south west to the verdant Nyungwe Forest. This rainforest which covers about 970 sq km and lies at high altitude creates its own unique climate. The forest provides an overwhelming biodiversity, and is the biggest protected rainforest lying on high altitude in the whole of East Africa and is supposed to be the source of river Congo as well as the River Nile.

Nyungwe’s most important feature is that it is a fraction of the great Albertine Rift Valley. And for this it has provided shelter to numerous wildlife species and while here we shall be able to see various forest birds, reptiles, mammals, amphibians as well as plant species. In the evening we shall enjoy a forest walk.

Day 3: Nyungwe National Park

Begin the day early with a forest walk following one of its major trails. Due to the altitude and the nature of the terrain, the walk may be somewhat challenging although the trails are customized to suit the visitors’ physical fitness. Overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge (Full Board)

Day 4: Nyungwe to Kigali

After breakfast, return to Kigali, making a stop at the King’s Palace found at Nyanza and there we shall learn more about Rwanda’s history.

Day 5: Kigali to Volcanoes

Today we head to the Volcanoes National Park. The drive will go for three hours taking us over the rolling countryside of Rwanda, and later the great Virunga Volcanoes will come into sight.

Each one of these stunning mountains possesses its own unique character and outline, even though together they form the great distant yet visually outstanding ecosystem. Virunga National Park was the very first destination in Africa to be affirmed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This park is habitant to some of the remaining tranquil Mountain Gorillas remaining in the world.Following lunch, we enjoy the splendor and loveliness of Rwandan music and traditional dances. Day 6 Volcanoes National Park

Today, we shall experience the highlight of this trip, as we track the tranquil giants; the Mountain Gorillas. You will be accompanied by knowledgeable guides as you set out tracking, and a number of these have actually personally participated in the gorilla habituation process.

The time it takes to find these gorillas varies, but on finding them you will be permitted utmost an hour in their presence. This is among the most memorable encounters you will experience in the world rewarding you with unforgettable experiences as you stare deep into the eyes of these gentle giants.

You may have a chance to visit the local communities or even have to the stunning Lake Ruhondo and Lake Bulera.

Day 7: Kigali

Today you will have a chance to visit the Genocide Memorial Centre in Kigali. This Centre was established by a joint venture between a UK based Aegis Trust and the Kigali-City-Council. It has a permanent yet very heartrending exhibition of the Rwandan genocide as well as an exhibition of the additional genocides that happened elsewhere in the world.Spend the rest of the day at leisure as you prepare for your departure flight.
