MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK.
“Where Gold meets Silver”
This is the country’s smallest park covering just 38 sq. km.
The park is 15km by road south of Kisoro town and 55 km by road west of kabale town.
It is found in Bufumbira County of kisoro district in the far south west of the country. Mgahinga National Park is 510 km from Kampala.
Mgahinga National Park comprises three of the eight Virunga Mountains and these include; Mount Muhabura, Mount Gahinga and Mount Sabinyo.
ATTRACTIONS AND ACTIVITIES IN MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK.
Attractions with in the park include; the virunga volcanoes of Muhavura, Gahinga and Sabinyo
The caves on the steep slopes of the volcanoes (Garama cave.),
Gorillas, Mgahinga is a home to the habituated nyakagezi gorilla group.
Pygmy “Batwa” communities also belong here and a Batwa trail is also organized as an attraction in this park
179-184 bird species in the park’s forested gorges.
Golden monkeys, and 76 mammal species that include giant animals such as the bush pigs, bush bucks ,forested buffaloes, golden cats, side striped jackals, black fronted duikers and South-African porcupines
ACCOMMODATION ON ONE’S VIST TO MGHAHINGA NATIONAL PARK.
Accommodation can be acquired in three areas of Ntebeko, Bunyonyi and kisoro with different accommodation facilities such as camps, lodges, resorts and hotels.
