Queen Elizabeth National Park is situated in western Uganda shared by three districts of Bushenyi, Kasese and bundibugyo.it is one park that has been named several times with its current name inherited after the Queen’s visit to the park.
It is the second largest park in Uganda covering 1978 square km includes part of Lake Kyoga and George that are linked to the Kazinga channel.
Its 5-6 hours from Kampala on a surface road via mbarara, and a dirt road from Bwindi. Accessing the park through Kasese via fort portal is 410km.
The park can also be reached through the ishasha sector that is south of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
ATTRACTIONS AND ACTIVITIES WITHIN QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK.
Queen Elizabeth National Park is endowed with a number of attractions and these include; 95 mammal species, 612 species of birds, tree climbing lions in the ishasha sector, the beautiful volcanic craters, forested gorges, the savannah plains, swamps and rivers, the kazinga channel, the abundance wildlife, vast flora and fauna, and lastly the culture of people within the local communities of the park.
Queen Elizabeth National park after the Amazon forests it is believed to have the second highest bird population in the world with birds such as; Martial Eagle, Black Rumped Fly catcher, African skimmer, African Broadbill, Verreaux’s Eagle Owl among others.
With the above attractions, one engage in a number of activities during their stay in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
And these include; Chimpanzee tracking in the forested Kyambura gorges, boat cruise on the kazinga channel, Game drives with in the park, Bird watching, sightseeing and executing cultural and nature walks in the park communities among others.
